1. Tried out the new train station stops in Auckland and they were great, but to put into some personal perspective, all that money and effort just so I wouldn’t have to walk up from the Waitemata Station all the way up Queen Street- hardly a hardship- to the cinemas at the old Metro Building, a mere kilometre or about 15 min, if I was making window-shopping stops at Prada, Dior and Cartier (no I don’t lol). But what a marvel it is to see public works done properly and correctly.
2. We watched Zack Cregger’s re-do of Resident Evil and I had this weird craving for Jell-O afterwards after seeing the infected hurl themselves onto the street below and disintegrating like dropped gelatin after meeting the ground. How is that even gory?
3. We managed to get to OPSM before it closed and I continued my drama of measuring my pupillary distance. I explained it again to the staff as to what I wanted- PLEASE MEASURE MY PUPILLARY DISTANCE- but yet again, didn’t get the answer I wanted. Was I somehow speaking in a foreign language or something??? I told myself this morning that if I didn’t get the measurement, then I wasn’t going to get the Meta Glasses, that’s it’s not really meant to be, that all these stumbling blocks point to a sign. But then she brought out some eye-measurement device and said, ‘let’s measure them’. FINALLY. So I ordered them and in two weeks, I’ll be the proud owner of a pair of pervert glasses.
4. At Ahi, we were seated at the best tables facing the waterfront only because our reservation was the start of the dinner service. The way the tables and chairs were positioned in this area, you could barely see other diners on either side of you which is perfect. You’re focused on the food and the conversation (though I must admit, people watching/judging is fun). And speaking of the food, why is it that the mains are not really the stars of the show?? Just like Cassia, the entrees turned out to be more inspiring and imaginative. We had whitebait fritter that was presented, suspended in a buttery, umami-rich sweet potato broth and the vegetarian ‘corn-dog’ was actually a whole carrot which tasted anything but. We had lamb and duck for mains and they were good, but not Michelin-good.
