Sometimes I wonder if ‘picking up a hobby’ is truly ever random, or incidental. I think the passion (and the latent talent?) has been there all along, waiting for the right moment.
L and I were actually talking about this today and about where we’re at with our art. She’s miles ahead and has developed a form that is hers. I’m literally starting all over again, and weaning myself away from the digital based ‘art’ that has become my 2nd profession and day job.
And it’s hard. At a time in your life where you feel that you only have finite supplies of energy, time and money, you wouldn’t want to waste them on something that doesn’t give you joy- that for me is the baseline.
I know that I’m not going to wake up one day to find myself the next Damian Hirst, but I’d be more than happy to know that I had courage enough to have tried.
