My dad never drove and we never really got to know from him directly as to why. He had a driver until the day he died. Hitching a ride with him probably gave me five-year’s worth of second-hand smoke (his driver also smoked), but that aside, I LOVE being driven.
It’s the dream isn’t it because who needs the stress from the toxic bubble that is driving then complaining about other drivers and then complaining some more, 24/7? Add to this the agony of seeing your money literally burning at the pump with sky-rocketing petrol prices as the Orange Anus keeps fucking up the Middle-East, and if you’re really unlucky (or a fool who doesn’t know the first thing about vehicle maintenance) keeling over from being told that your clutch is fucked, or that some mysterious wire inside your engine is fucked.
So having a car really sucks and it’s one of those very few things that I have ZERO FOMO over. No thank you!
And then you get the commute from hell.

Took me 45 minutes today to get to the office; an office that is less than 6kms away, or a 14 minute drive with normal traffic, or an hour on foot if you’re doing it at a fast pace which I have done a couple of times.
I missed the bus by about 2 minutes and the train that goes in the same direction by 1. I could see the train roof pulling in from where we parked, but there was no way in hell I could cover a walkway and an over-bridge in 20 seconds with a 2.16kg Macbook Pro on my back.
The next trips were 17 min for the bus and 14 for the train, so I thought, okay the train is faster. Well it was, then I get to my stop and the goddamned, motherfucking Takaanini station that was on its final stages of completion, STILL DID NOT HAVE ACCESS to the street that I need to get on. I had to climb the temporary stairs which was a terrifying three story construction of scaffolding and black netting to get to the other side. Then it was a 15 minute walk all around the carpark to get to the main road, and another 10 minutes to reach the office.
Happy Friday…
