We had to take Lily to the vet for her regular check-up. Clever girl took a glimpse at the cat-carrier and attempted to hide in the bedroom. She was meowing fitfully in the car which soon became this high-pitched chirp which she puts on every time she wants to look ‘vulnerable’. That’s what we suspect anyway. Weight was fine, the allergic reaction to the flea treatment she was on right before winter started was nearly gone, and of course, they always mention the serious stuff at the end: she might also need a complete dental check and blood work which might be in the vicinity of $1200 (not covered by her stupid insurance. Oh well, we all probably will get one less gift this Christmas to pay for that.
I realised looking through my notes, that the majority of stuff I’ve written down to check out in Tokyo, were eating places. Of course. New Zealand is a barren place for food, and even if what you wanted was available, it’s either more expensive than anywhere else in the world, or you have to make it yourself. But this suits me just fine. It’s actually perfect- you save a couple more years if you’re lucky by not eating crap, and you save money to spend on more important stuff like clothes (that fit you because you’re NOT fat) and pervert glasses. But I’ve been looking forward to getting off the spartan diet treadmill for a bit and enjoying life a little. But no to seeking out Michelin-starred places; unfortunately, expensive pervert glasses weren’t the only purchases I’ve made recently. We’re landing in Tokyo at 6:30 and I’m actually looking forward to buying dinner at 7-11, where else?
I don’t work on Fridays but I had to do several online meetings today just to be sure. In between, I cleaned the pantry, assembled laundry to be done on the weekend because we have free-power booked, made another check of my packing and charged tech devices. I also bought new sheets so that I’ll be coming back to my bed to sleep in new, unused linen- now that’s a treat.
Even though I haven’t been using Uber a lot anymore- been using Bolt instead- I’m quite aware of how much more professional Uber is. Their cars are better, their drivers have a tad more finesse and you don’t wait and wait until a driver deigns to pick you up. But having said that, Uber also charges more- one large cappuccino with almond milk more– than Bolt. In this economy fucked up by Trump and the Russians, I’m going to choose the one that gives me my daily coffee. But have to hand it to Uber for coming up with the best campaigns. A couple of years back, it was dogs Ubered to your workplace for a couple of hours- dogs!– which for me, is the dopamine equivalent of a month’s worth of free chicken delivery from KFC. And this month, it’s a collaboration with the Red Cross for a clothing drive. On Saturday, 17 October between 10 am and 4 pm, you can pack your quality pre-loved clothes into a sturdy bag or box under 20 kg, small enough to fit comfortably in a mid-size car boot and then have an Uber driver pick it up, to be dropped off at a designated drop-off location. How cool is that? Thank you for taking my clothes off my hands.
