A change of perception

What’s one thing that would instantly improve your city?

I love Auckland and I think it’s perfect the way it is. But it gets a lot of flack from people who’ve lived (and are native born) here all their lives which I don’t get, and I think I never will even if I’ve been living here for the past 18 years. And frankly, I don’t care.

Try living in a city that’s outside the top 20 liveable cities in the world and see how that goes; not that rankings count for everything, but remember that Auckland has been in the top 20 and (mostly) in the top 10 consistently.

There’s always that attitude of the grass is greener elsewhere (of course it would be), and the inability to see the bigger picture. Well, I guess you can always fuck off if you’re not feeling it.

But I’m staying put and loving these five great things about the City of Sails:

  1. You can travel from one end to the other and the vibe would be completely different.
  2. Currently has 1.8 million people but doesn’t feel crowded (just avoid those places that are).
  3. That you can walk through the main CBD and back because it’s only less than 3kms one way.
  4. The weather is PERFECT, never too hot and never too cold.
  5. You don’t need to spend much to enjoy what it offers.
